From Organically Raised: Conscious Cooking for Babies & Toddlers comes a pure carrot puree that packs in Vitamin A, Beta-Carotene, and antioxidants – perfect for growing bodies!

Pure Carrot Puree

Ingredients

1 pound organic carrots

Preparation

Wash and peel the carrots. Cut off the ends. Chop the carrots into thin rounds.

Steam the carrot pieces for 15 to 20 minutes, or until soft (the flat side of a metal spatula will easily mash the carrots). Reserve the liquid from the steamer.

Transfer the steamed carrot pieces to a food processor. Add 1/2 cup of the reserved liquid. Puree until smooth. Continue to add the reserved liquid in scant 1/8-cup increments until the puree reaches the desired consistency and smoothness.

From Organically Raised: Conscious Cooking for Babies & Toddlers comes this delicious pure peach puree that is perfect this summer when peaches are in season! Peaches provide your baby with iron, potassium, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Make sure to pick up a few extra peaches for yourself to make a peach crisp for dessert! YUM!

Pure Peach Puree

Ingredients

2 pounds organic yellow sweet peaches (4 large peaches)

Preparation

Wash and peel the peaches. Remove the pits. Cut the fruit into 1-inch pieces.

Steam the peach pieces for 6-8 minutes, or until soft (a sharp knife will pass easily through the pieces). Fruit that is not completely ripe will need to steam longer. Reserve the liquid from the steamer.

Transfer the steamed peach pieces to a food processor and puree until smooth. Add the reserved liquid (if necessary) in scant 1/8-cup increments until the puree reaches the desired consistency and smoothness.

*You can also try this same puree, only substitute apricots, nectarines, or plums instead of peaches.

Today’s green living article was written by Kristl, from The Budget Diet, to share with Tiny Green Mom’s readers! A BIG thanks to Kristl for providing another wonderful green living tip!

Pedal Power

Many of us bought homes in the suburbs because of the safe, quiet neighborhoods. We had visions of our children walking to school, riding bikes to ball practice and playing outside.

Well…here we are…sitting in an endless carpool line at school, feeling like taxi drivers as we shuttle our children to after school activities and wasting a lot of gas in the process!

It’s green week, so take the time to find a few opportunities for you and your children to walk or ride bikes instead of driving, and then start to make it a habit!

* Is the library just a mile away…try pedal power!

* Ride bikes or walk with your children to school…you’ll save gas & get some exercise!

* Bicycle errands are always fun…if you just need a few things at the grocery, strap on a backpack & ride!

You get the idea!

I’ve made a conscious effort in the past year to ride my bike whenever possible, and I’ve cut down from 4 tanks of gas a month to just 2 tanks! WOW…that’s about $100 a month in savings not to mention all those calories burned!

Today’s illuminating (pun intended!) article was written by Kristl, from The Budget Diet, to share with Tiny Green Mom’s readers! A HUGE thanks to Kristl for providing this article!

Stop Phantom Electricity

Discover almost instant savings with a tip that’s both budget friendly & earth friendly!

My daughter’s science project on “Phantom Electricity” showed us just how much electricity we waste.

What is”Phantom Electricity”? Phantom Electricity is the electricity that is used when a device is plugged in but not in use.

For example…you leave your cell phone charger plugged in all the time, but you only charge your phone every few days…did you know that your charger is still using electricity when it is plugged in but not charging? This is “Phantom Electricity”, and little bits are being used throughout your home everyday hence the name “phantom.”

My daughter used a device called the “Kill-A-Watt” to take exact measurements of “Phantom Electricity”. The results showed that we’re not talking about huge savings…only $5 – $10 per month, but The Budget Diet motto is: Every little bit adds up!

So, how do you save electricity without running around your house unplugging every little thing, everyday? Here are some easy suggestions:

* Use power strips for both your computer and television. When not in use…simply turn off the power strip.
* Unplug lamps & appliances that you rarely use.
* For goodness sake, don’t leave your chargers plugged in when not in use!
* It’s all about starting a new habit, so give it a chance and soon unplugging will become second nature just like turning off the lights!

As my 6th grade daughter said in her conclusion, it’s not just about saving money…it’s about saving the Earth! GO GREEN & SAVE!
