Those adorable little legwarmers that are seen adorning tiny legs and arms this Fall are available in soft, organic cotton, as well! BabyLegs® Organic offers vibrant stripes and pretty prints to mix and match with all of your child’s outfits, and one size fits most, so the legwarmers can be worn as your child matures. PLus, for added fun, the legwarmers can also be worn as armwarmers, too! What “Mom” loves about these cute styles is that they can help to transition your baby or toddler’s clothing from Summer to Fall with style. Plus, they make diaper changes a breeze!

In addition to keeping wee ones warm, the organic legwarmers are perfect for protecting tiny knees and elbows as babies learn to crawl and walk. Our favorites include the Duchess and Dorothy styles with tiny ruffles – could they be any cuter?!

Founded in 2008, the LamanBlu Collection is simply gorgeous, made from eco-friendly bamboo knit, and the pieces are made to mix-n-match with style. The creator of LamanBlu, Holli Gibson, took the time enough to answer some of “Mom’s” questions about her eco-friendly designer line of clothing for little girls ages 6 months to 6 years of age. A former designer for Nordstrom’s, Neiman Marcus, and Victoria’s Secret, Holli Gibson has brought her expertise and keen eye to her fashionable children’s clothing, and the result is absolutely darling!

An Interview with Holli Gibson, the Creator of LamanBlu

1. Tell us about your eco-inspired company:

LamanBlu is designer clothing for little girls. It merges the American lifestyle of easy to care, easy to wear clothing, with the European sensibility for the finer things in life and attention to detail. I also wanted to be true to something near and dear to my heart, the eco-impact our choices have. My mother was eco when I was a kid, before we even had a term for such things. God has given us this beautiful world, and we all have a responsibility to care for it. LamanBlu is designed to mix and match. There are so many options for the customer to individualize their look from fun everyday wear to special events.
2. How do you choose to go green in your own life:

We buy locally and domestically whenever possible. We are on a first name basis with our local farmers market, which not only brings us great local produce but mostly organic produce as well. We also buy milk from a local organic dairy and try to eat only free range animal products like free range poultry and buffalo. We have a great recycling center which takes virtually everything you can recycle, so our recycling bin well outweighs our trash bin. Living in the mountains of Colorado and on a well and septic system, we are very conscious of our water consumption also.

3. Guilty green pleasure:

Making things with my kids that we normally would buy at the store, from pasta to tortillas to ice cream. Not only do we get to make them with great organic ingredients but it’s a great fun family activity and we’re eliminating so much packaging waste that comes with those types of products.

4. Can you offer any encouraging words for those with a small sustainable business?

It can be challenging to have an eco-friendly business. It takes more thought and planning, but it’s well worth it. It’s great to be a pioneer in helping change our world. It fosters thought about what we do and how we do it, from our purchasing patterns to smart consumerism. We are setting an example of caring for our children and others around us. Start small if you have to, every step is a step in the right direction.

The creators of Kicky Pants, Nick and Erin Cloke, were kind enough to answer some of “Mom’s” questions about their eco-fabulous line of clothing made from sustainable bamboo for children. Founded in 2007, this line has now expanded to include seasonal pieces as well as their bamboo basics! Check them out online at www.kickypants.com.

Tell us about your eco-inspired company:

Kicky Pants is an infant/toddler and maternity clothing manufacturer utilizing bamboo fabrications and fashion forward designs. We control our process from fabric mill to completion using certified organic bamboo in our milling process. The line includes super soft wearable clothing that allows for a child’s natural movement and comfort. Our prints and designs are inspired by the natural world (trees, flowers and animals), encouraging children to enjoy the beauty around them, while our whimsical take on these themes (unicorns, dragons, leaping frogs) encourages all of us to “celebrate innocence.”

How do you choose to go green in your own life?

In our family recycling is very important, not only for trash, but old toys and clothing as well. We try our best not to be wasteful and to pass along items we are no longer using, or create an art project from them to give them a new life! Also, we noticed the large amounts of trash generated with our children’s lunches, so we have switched to “trash free lunches” with reusable containers for drinks, sandwiches and snacks. Nick was an environmental science major, so he is regularly considering new and different ways we can make a difference in our own lives as well as in our business.

What is your guilty green pleasure?

Organic stone ground chocolate! So good! We get it from our local farmers market. It’s very different from the consistency of regular chocolate, but super yummy!

Can you offer any encouraging words for those with a small sustainable business?

Whenever you make the choice to include the “overall picture” of the world we share when you create something, you are not only serving those around you with a great product, you are also adding something to the way of life in your community. The idea is for “green thinking” to eventually be an expectation that we all have, and not a novelty or a trend. You are on the right path if you go in the direction of sustainability. Let your product speak for itself, and best of luck!
